Guaíba Lake Refuge

Project designed for a site in Ponta Grossa, in the southern zone of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. The program includes two sets of rental cabins and also features leisure and communal areas at the highest point of the site, offering a view of Lake Guaíba. Additionally, there is a dedicated event space with the Guaíba sunset as a backdrop.

The architecture of the cabin complexes follows a unified formal principle for all building typologies: it is based on two parallel solid prisms constructed in masonry, forming the sides of the structures. These prisms house infrastructure and wet areas, while the space between them is designated for the main living areas.

The spatial arrangement is designed to enhance the views of the Guaíba and the native forest.

The smaller cabins of the Refúgio Lago Guaíba project employ the same construction principles as the larger cabins. While the side façades result from the compaction of support areas in solid brick masonry, the center of the plan is resolved in solid wood with a single span.

The placement of the private units seeks opportunities on the site to ensure the best views and the privacy of the guests.

The combination of materials is justified from a construction standpoint, and their timely organization for the proper use of the building results in the desired final architecture.

The façade of the private units facing the internal circulation paths is primarily defined by solid brick walls, a proportion that is inverted on the façades facing the slope leading to the lake.

The private units with two bedrooms are characterized by panoramic rooms in a wooden structure associated with a brick core that accommodates support areas and defines the shared living space.
