EXPO 2020 Brazilian Pavilion

The Pavilion of Brazil theme on EXPO 2020 Dubai, Together for Diversity, combines two words that reminds us how important is to understand that our country is a huge convergence of cultures from diffrent backgrounds and the celebration of this diversity is the only base we could conceive our unity. The design of the Pavillion is based on the idea of being united. The plan doesn’t divides the visitors in a long line of introverted experiences, but offers a space that privileges social interaction. The spaces are wide and the experiences are collective, always creating dialogue and collaboration. The flow organization and the concatenation of spaces that promotes a sequence of experiences that are planned to depeen the thematic axes of the exhibition leaves enough room for each visitor to walk the pavilion at their own pace.

The pavilion presents itself to the visitors as a huge sunroom that can be accessed from any direction and from which you can already see, through the perimeter permeability, the large central multi-height space around which the project is organized. This monumentalised central space where people reunite has precedentes in diverse cultures that compose Brazil, from the indigenous villages to Eropean relegious spaces, the circle has the imaginary power that referes to union and collectivity. The materialization of the pavilion through translucent surfaces and a cartesian matrix geometry also allows visitors of Arab origin to realize that there is a subtle tribute to their culture. Thus, it emphasize that Brazil’s atitude is frendly and the messege is universal. Although the pavilion is quite open from the observer’s point of view, it protects itself entirely from the strong sun of the region and takes advantage of its shape to naturally eliminate hot air accumulated through upper vents.
